Behind-the-Music | Barracuda

Barracuda wasn’t just a rock banger—it was a full-on lyrical takedown.

The song’s venom came straight from outrage at a sleazy music-industry exec who tried to smear Nancy Wilson with a completely false story about an incestuous relationship. “He was one of those guys — a slimeball in a satin jacket. We heard about this totally untrue story at a party and were appalled,” Nancy recalls.

Ann Wilson channeled that fury into her vocals, turning raw anger into an unforgettable, biting performance. The lyrics weren’t just words—they were a middle finger to anyone trying to diminish their talent, a sonic stand against slimeballs and salacious gossip, and a rallying cry that still hits as hard today as it did in ’77.

I'll never look at a barracuda the same.
